TROLLS

Scope of Work

Shot lighting and compositing and special rig setup (for one-off shots, transition shots). Final completion of several key and non-key shots. Wrote NUKE plugin for global AOV control of all elements (more detail in 'Technical' section)

TASKS OF NOTE

  • Set up the lighting rig from scratch for many one-off shots and worked on several complex shot transitions.
  • There were some special characters in the Trolls universe who appeared only in a handful of shots and had no lighting look developed for them. I had to handle them during live production and work with surfacing/rigging to have them groomed as per art direction.

Challenges

The final sequence had shots with hundreds of characters from both the Trolls and Bergens universe, all dancing together with sweeping camera movements. Lighting the characters and complex environment to match the key art (in record time) and then drawing the eye to a few key characters (who were opposites in scale), was especially challenging.

Fun Fact

When there weren't enough circles of confusion (bokeh effect), we would strategically place spheres in the background to fake them.
